Al Pacino shared tales about The Humbling – how the movie Shane informed a scene, what it was like to work with Greta Gerwig, and the process of adapting the Philip Roth novel. He discussed the seductive quality of big screen movies, fielded a question about The Godfather, and explained the origin of his famous “Hoo-aa” expression in Scent of a Woman, among other great moments.
Pacino was joined by The Humbling director Barry Levinson, a legend in his own right (Diner, The Natural, among others), who reminded us the he played a bellhop in an elevator scene in the Mel Brooks classic, High Anxiety.
The conversation, a primer on moviemaking at its finest featuring two giants of the movie business, was deftly moderated by 92Y Reel Pieces series creator, Annette Insdorf.
