Person Place Thing Episode 59: Alison Bechdel

Jan 23, 2014

The number of people who can currently see their lives enacted on the musical stage is, I believe, three. Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys, that scary witch in Wicked – but she might be fictional – and Alison Bechdel, whose graphic memoir, Fun Home, is the basis of the hit show at New York’s Public Theater. She draws, she writes, and she speaks eloquently.

  • PERSON: psychiatrist Donald Winnicott
  • PLACE: tiny office she built in a closet as a child (not this one)
  • THING: a lime green Bic pen, her childhood favorite

  • RANDY'S THING: a trampoline in a revamped miniature golf course in Reading, PA (much like this one)
