Michelle Zauner is best known as a singer and guitarist who creates dreamy, shoegaze-inspired indie pop under the name Japanese Breakfast. She has won acclaim from major music outlets around the world for releases like Psychopomp (2016) and Soft Sounds from Another Planet (2017). Her new album Jubilee was released in June 2021. Her first book is Crying in H Mart, out now.

E. Alex Jung is a features writer at Vulture, New York magazine’s entertainment and culture news site, where he writes about TV, film, theater, Internet culture, race, and sexuality. At Vulture, Jung has profiled individuals including Michaela Coel, Thandie Newton, Bong Joon-ho, RuPaul, John Cho, Padma Lakshmi, and many more, focusing particularly on stars on the rise.

Jung was named a Culture Shifter on HuffPost’s 2020 list honoring individuals shaping today’s culture in exciting ways for his work changing the conversation around representation. He initially started at Vulture as weekend editor, and later rose to associate editor, then staff writer. His pieces regularly appear on Longform, and he has also written for The New York Times, Dissent, The Los Angeles Review of Books, Harper’s Bazaar, and more. He graduated from Columbia University in 2007, and did research in Seoul on a Fulbright grant from 2010 to 2011.
