Former Chairman of the Republican National Committee Michael Steele recently sat down with 92Y Producer Jordan Chariton at The Jefferson Hotel in Washington, D.C. to discuss the state of the Republican Party today.
In this final part of our three part interview (CLICK HERE FOR PART ONE AND TWO), Steele details what he sees as positive things Republicans are doing around the country.
Steele praises Governors like Wisconsin's Scott Walker, New Mexico's Susana Martinez and Louisiana's Bobby Jindal for policies that have created "good government" and shown "strong effective leadership."
On the struggles of cities like Detroit, Steele makes the point that economically speaking, people need some help:
"The rising tide does lift all boats, but we have to recognize some folks need a boat first...Detroit needs a boat."
Moving toward the GOP's chances in the next presidential election, Steele didn't mince words.
"If it's Hillary, it will be a tall order. My charge to the party would be don't run this sort of anti-Hillary bs from the 1990's. That's not the same woman...she is well past being First Lady."
Finally, will Steele run for higher office?
"I'm looking at the Governors race in Maryland," Steele said. "We'll see."
