Madeleine Albright: On Learning Her Jewish Roots

May 3, 2012

There's an increased interest in this country in finding out about our ancestors and backgrounds - celebrating our ethnic pasts along with our American identities. Madeleine Albright talked with us the other night about the drama of finding out a key part of her family story on the very day she was confirmed as America's first female Secretary of State – looking backwards and forwards at the same time. She compared it to running a marathon while unwrapping a package. She talked with CNN correspondent Christiane Amanpour about the experience. (The "Jamie" who Albright mentions is Jamie Rubin, Amanpour's husband who was, at the time, an Assistant Secretary of State).
