Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song

In Conversation with Directors Dan Geller and Dayna Goldfine, producer Alan Light, and Rabbi David Ingber

Apr 27, 2023

Annette Insdorf will moderate a discussion about Leonard Cohen: In Search of Jewish Spirituality, following a screening of the Oscar shortlisted documentary, Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song (115 minutes). Her guests will include the documentary’s directors Dan Geller and Dayna Goldfine, Rabbi David Ingber, Senior Director of Jewish Life and the Bronfman Center at 92NY, as well as author Alan Light, whose 2012 book, THE HOLY OR THE BROKEN: Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley & the Unlikely Ascent of ‘Hallelujah, was the inspiration for the documentary.’

The film presents an engrossing portrait of the legendary singer, composer, poet, and spiritual seeker. While its focus is his iconic song “Hallelujah,” Cohen’s personal trajectory is traced via revelatory archival material, including never before seen footage of him performing in Israel. The award-winning documentary also interweaves moving recollections from celebrated performers like Judy Collins, Brandi Carlile, Sharon Robinson, Eric Church and Rufus Wainwright.
