Catherine Alfano, PhD, is an international leader in cancer survivorship and cancer rehabilitation. At Northwell Health, she leads both clinical care design and research across the health system. Operationally, she develops and oversees the implementation and integration of a high-quality cancer survivorship program for the health system that monitors patients from diagnosis forward, delivering timely and effective care. The goal of this effort is to simultaneously improve long-term patient outcomes and experience of care while reducing unnecessary costs. She also oversees the development of a Learning Health System for oncology where research is imbedded in care to facilitate translational research and allow patient data to drive personalized care. Before joining Northwell, she served as the Vice President of Survivorship at the American Cancer Society where she provided vision and leadership to ACS research, programming, and policy efforts nationwide to improve the lives of cancer survivors. She previously served as the Deputy Director of the National Cancer Institute’s Office of Cancer Survivorship where she created funding opportunity announcements to fill gaps in cancer survivorship and transdisciplinary research. Dr. Alfano’s research aims to speed the effective translation of research into practice and inform supporting policy to optimize patient outcomes and clinic efficiency, address provider shortages, and decrease healthcare costs.

Christine Mullin, MD is currently the Interim System Chief of Northwell Health Fertility. Dr. Mullin first joined the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Division at Northwell in 2011 after completing her fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at NYU Fertility Center-Langone Medical Center. She was selected by The American Society of Reproductive Medicine as a Clinical Research/Reproductive Scientist Training Scholar, and successfully completed the Northwell Health Physician Leadership Development Program in 2020 and is currently partaking in Northwell’s Executive Leadership Development Program.

In her time at Northwell, Dr. Mullin has continually demonstrated a strong devotion to patient care, education, and leadership. She has excelled in prior leadership roles including IVF Director, Preimplantation Genetic Testing Director and Fertility Preservation Director at Northwell Health Fertility. In addition to these administrative roles, she is deeply committed to medical education and teaching. Dr. Mullin leads initiatives for improving resident and fellow education, and promotes academic enrichment activities for the REI Attending physicians. She has held a faculty appointment at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell as an Assistant Professor since 2011. Dr. Mullin maintains a busy REI practice and has been recognized as one of Newsday's Top Doctors on Long Island and Castle Connolly Regional Top Doctors since 2018.

Patrick Martone, DO is an assistant professor at the Zucker school of Medicine at Hofstra University. He works in the department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Northwell Health and specializes in Cancer Rehabilitation Medicine.

He received his undergraduate degree at Colgate University and attended medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. He underwent residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital/National Rehabilitation Hospital (MedStar GUH/NRH) and served as chief resident. He also completed his fellowship training in Cancer Rehabilitation Medicine at MedStar GUH/NRH.

He works to enhance a person’s quality of life and function, which is often impacted by cancer and its treatments. He commonly helps individuals with conditions such as neuropathy, fatigue, radiation-fibrosis, post-mastectomy pain, lymphedema, trismus and chemobrain.

He is also passionate about utilizing integrative/holistic approaches to improve an individual’s well-being. In addition to practicing Cancer Rehabilitation Medicine, he also performs osteopathic manual medicine/OMM/OMT and acupuncture.

Robert Copeland-Halperin, MD is the Director of Cardio-Oncology at Northwell Health. He graduated from Hamilton College and completed the post-baccalaureate program at Columbia University. He engaged in research in vascular medicine at the Harvard Medical School before attending the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honorary society and the Arthur P. Gold Society for Humanism in Medicine. Dr. Copeland-Halperin completed internship and residency in internal medicine at the Mount Sinai Hospital, and continued at Mount Sinai for fellowship in cardiovascular diseases. He then completed an additional fellowship in cardio-oncology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Copeland-Halperin’s research has been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals including Arteriosclerosis Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, the Journal of the American Heart Association, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, and JAMA Oncology.

Dr. Copeland-Halperin serves on the American College of Cardiology’s Cardio-Oncology Leadership Council and is a member of the International Society of Cardio-Oncology.

A third-generation cardiologist, Dr. Copeland-Halperin is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Nuclear Cardiology.  His goal is to enable patients to receive the most effective treatment for cancer by partnering with them and their oncologists to optimize cardiovascular health and overall outcomes.
