Frank McCourt
Radio talk show host Leonard Lopate speaks with Irish-American author Frank McCourt about his popular memoir, Angela’s Ashes (1996). This event is part of the Books and Breakfast discussion series, sponsored by Barnes and Noble. McCourt was born in Brooklyn, but his family returned to Limerick, Ireland when he was young. After a difficult and impoverished childhood in Limerick, he returned to New York as a young adult. McCourt reflects on his childhood, his early life in America, his time as an American soldier in the Korean War, and his career as an English teacher in New York. The discussion is followed with questions from the audience.
