In The Ashtray (Or the Man Who Denied Reality), Oscar-winning filmmaker Errol Morris expands on the series of pieces he wrote for The New York Times about how his experience as a young student with eminent historian of science Thomas Kuhn led him to ask big questions about how we know about truth and the nature of reality.

With the help not only of philosophers but also of such wide-ranging sources as The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence, Lewis Carroll, Kafka, Orwell, and Twain, Morris mounts a powerful argument for the stability of truth, and the crucial importance of pursuing it — the same goal he has pursued throughout his storied filmmaking career.
