After the huge success of Oscar-nominated films The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, director David O. Russell returns with Joy.
Based on the true story of Joy Mangano (Jennifer Lawrence) — the feisty American inventor of the Miracle Mop and other household gadgets — the film features Robert De Niro as Joy's father, Bradley Cooper as a QVC shopping channel executive who recognizes her potential, Virginia Madsen as her soap-opera addicted mother, Diane Ladd as her supportive grandmother, Edgar Ramirez as the ex-husband who lives in her basement, Dascha Polanco as her loyal friend and Isabella Rossellini as the wealthy widow courted by Joy's father.
David O. Russell’s earlier credits include Spanking the Monkey (1994 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award), Flirting with Disaster, Three Kings and I Heart Huckabees. Isabella Rossellini is a writer and director in addition to her memorable performances in such films as Blue Velvet, Cousins, Fearless, Big Night and Left Luggage.
