American film critic Judith Crist reviews the best and worst movies that premiered in 1970, including Love Story, a romantic drama written by Erich Segal; Gimme Shelter, a documentary about the last weeks of The Rolling Stones' 1969 US tour; Getting Straight, a comedy film about student politics at a university in the early 1970s; Ryan's Daughter, a British romantic drama set during World War I; Brewster McCloud, a dark comedy about a recluse living in a fallout shelter; and Five Easy Pieces, a drama starring Jack Nicholson as an oil rig worker. The discussion concludes with audience questions.

The Preservation of and Increased Access to the 92nd Street Y Humanities Audio Archives is generously funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities: Democracy demands wisdom.
