Brian Wilson and the Story of Smile

Jun 8, 2005

Smile was the most famous "unfinished" album in rock history. Often dubbed "the holy grail of rock 'n' roll," the uncompleted 1967 Beach Boys album had been a legend for decades. People compared it to the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band without ever having heard it. Fans and music critics spent 37 years wondering if they would ever get a chance to listen to it. Then in 2004, it was released. No one was disappointed.

After a screening of the documentary Beautiful Dreamer: Brian Wilson and the Story of Smile, former Beach Boy Brian Wilson, director David Leaf, journalist David Dalton and moderator Alan Light discuss creativity, drugs, how digital technology helped make the completion of Smile possible and more.
