Esther Smith

Esther Smith is a BAFTA-nominated British actress and writer who trained at the Guildford School of Acting. She is best known for her recurring role of ‘Rachel’ in Cuckoo, and was also a regular in all three series of the BBC Three sitcom Uncle. In 2019 Esther filmed the BBC Two drama Defending the Guilty, based on the book by Alex McBride. Other television credits include BAFTA Award-nominated Black Mirror, Skin, Cockroaches, em>Siblings, Ballot Monkeys, Misfits and Material Girl.

In 2015 Esther co-wrote and starred in a comedy short film Elephant with Nick Helm. Her episode formed part of a comedy collection called Funny Valentines, exclusive to BBC iPlayer, exploring different comedians’ attitudes towards Valentine’s Day. It was nominated for a BAFTA for best British short film. Esther is currently in development on a new writing project. Esther has appeared in multiple short films including F*ck, New Year and Confection.

On stage, Esther is best-known for her role of ‘Delphi Diggory’ in the original West End cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Palace Theatre, London. In 2017, Esther played the lead role of ‘Kat’ in Parliament Square, which opened at the Royal Exchange Manchester and subsequently transferred to the Bush Theatre in London. Esther has appeared as ‘Charlotte’ in Lucy Kirkwood’s NSFW at the Royal Court Theatre, ‘Esther’ in Tim Crouch’s The Author, also at the Royal Court, and ‘Juniper’ in Many Moons, written by Alice Birch. Esther’s other theatre credits include The Honeyman, Carrot and This Child at the Southwark Playhouse, and the role of ‘Juliet’ in Adam Walsh’s Romeo and Juliet at the Chocolate Factory.

Rafe Spall

Rafe Spall has starred in major studio releases such as The Big Short and Prometheus as well as independent films including Shaun of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and X+Y, for which he was nominated as best supporting actor at the British Independent Film Awards. In 2012, Rafe portrayed Canadian author Yann Martel in the Academy Award-winning drama film Life Of Pi, directed by Ang Lee. Rafe starred in the huge box office success Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom as well as Men in Black: International. He also starred in the bittersweet comedy Denmark. Additional film credits include The BFG and Swallows and Amazons.

His stage credits include the award-winning Constellations with Sally Hawkins at the Royal Court, for which he was nominated for a best actor Olivier, and the critically acclaimed Mike Nichols-directed Broadway revival of Pinter’s Betrayal, starring opposite Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz. Rafe also starred in Patrick Marber’s Hedda Gabler at the National Theatre, for which he was also nominated for an Olivier Award.

His television credits include War of the Worlds, Black Mirror, Pete Versus Life and the The Shadow Line.
