Anne Roiphe and Katie Roiphe on Memoir
American author and journalist Katie Roiphe speaks with her mother, novelist Anne Roiphe, about Anne’s new memoir, 1185 Park Avenue (1999). This lecture is part of the 1999 Ruth and Oliver Stanton About Women series. Anne Roiphe comments on how she handles truth as a novelist, the relationships she describes in the book, and how it feels to write about real people. Katie reflects on the tendency of older women to apologize for writing about their lives and families. The discussion is followed with questions from the audience.
