America the Beautiful: Lynn Sherr and Joel Siegel
Joel Siegel, film critic and entertainment editor of ABC’s Good Morning America, speaks with Lynn Sherr, correspondent for the ABC news magazine 20/20. They discuss Sherr’s 2001 book, America the Beautiful: The Stirring True Story Behind Our Nation's Favorite Song. Sherr talks about what inspired her to write this book, including her love of the song, “America the Beautiful.” She also explains the history of the song, which was originally a poem written by Katharine Lee Bates, and the song covers that various musicians have done over the years. The discussion concludes with the audience singing “America the Beautiful” together.
