HuffPost Live host Abby Huntsman recently spoke with us about getting young people more involved in politics. On the lesson from the 2012 election, Huntsman says young people aren't necessarily more Democratic than Republican, but instead points to President Obama "really going out of his way not only as a candidate but as a campaign to reach the youth." On the other hand, Huntsman thought the Republican Party "unfortunately made social issues the forefront of their platform." Abby goes on to speak about her father, former Utah Governor and presidential candidate Jon Huntsman, as an example of Republicans who practice tolerance while staying true to their conservative principles.
Huntsman also talked about the inconsistencies of youth political involvement, "where we see young people come out in droves for an election...and then you see a huge drop." Addressing this fact, Huntsman says "being involved after an election cycle is more important than the election process itself because that's when things actually get done."
