The U.S. and the Holocaust

Ken Burns, Lynn Novick, Sarah Botstein, and Daniel Mendelsohn in Conversation with Kara Swisher
Introduction by Annette Insdorf
The Esther Peterseil Memorial Lecture

Sep 14, 2022

Join award-winning filmmakers Ken Burns, Lynn Novick, and Sarah Botstein for an advance look at their upcoming PBS documentary series, The U.S. and the Holocaust.

Closely examining America’s response to one of the defining tragedies of the 20th century, Burns calls his new film one of the most important he’s ever worked on. Following a series of clips, the filmmakers will be joined by Daniel Mendelsohn, bestselling author of The Lost and a descendant of Holocaust victims, who is also featured in the film, for a panel discussion moderated by journalist Kara Swisher, co-host of the Pivot podcast. How have the Holocaust’s atrocities defined our country? How does its history continue to reverberate through our present? How can we ensure that a tragedy on this scale never happens again? Find out in this important discussion of one of the year’s most significant television events.
