Join producer and philanthropist Olivia Harrison and Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese on the life of Olivia’s late husband, the great George Harrison — and her debut book of poems, Came the Lightening: Twenty Poems for George. On the 20th anniversary of his passing, Harrison and Scorsese candidly discuss the incandescent life behind George’s songs, as they did in Scorsese’s 2011 documentary George Harrison: Living in a Material World. Hear them delve into the intimate stories of grief and sustained emotional connection told through Olivia’s deeply moving poems, Scorsese’s longtime fascination with George’s music, and much more.

Olivia Harrison

Olivia Trinidad Harrison is a film producer, and the widow of musician George Harrison of the Beatles. She first worked in the music industry in Los Angeles, for A&M Records, where she met George and then helped run his Dark Horse record label.

Olivia co-produced the Grammy winning film of the 2002 Concert For George; she received an Emmy in 2012 for her role as producer on the Martin Scorsese directed documentary: George Harrison: Living in the Material World; and this year, a Grammy for the All Things Must Pass re-issue as well as an Emmy for the Peter Jackson directed documentary series, The Beatles: Get Back.

Olivia oversees the Material World Foundation, a charity set up by George in 1973. The Foundation has responded to crises in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Mexico, Nepal & Romania, as well as at home.

The Material World are also partners with Martin Scorsese’s Film Foundation. Together they have restored 12 important films, including such diverse works as Charlie Chaplin’s The Count, Mexican classics Enamorada, Los Olividados, the British The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp and most recently, Bunuels’ classic El.

Martin Scorsese is an Academy Award®-winning Director and one of the most influential filmmakers working today. He has directed critically acclaimed, award-winning films including Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Last Temptation of Christ, Goodfellas, Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, Hugo, The Wolf of Wall Street, Silence, and The Irishman which was released in 2019 and received 10 Oscar® nominations.

Scorsese has directed numerous documentaries including the Peabody Award winning No Direction Home: Bob Dylan and Elia Kazan: A Letter to Elia; as well as Italianamerican, The Last Waltz, A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese through American Movies, Il Mio Viaggio in Italia, Public Speaking, Shine a Light, George Harrison: Living in the Material World, Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese, the docuseries Pretend It’s A City, and co-directed The 50 Year Argument. Scorsese executive produced the series Boardwalk Empire and Vinyl. He is currently in post-production on Killers of the Flower Moon and Personality Crisis: One Night Only. Scorsese is the founder and chair of The Film Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and protection of motion picture history.
