Trevor Potter is Founder and President of Campaign Legal Center, a leading nonpartisan legal advocacy organization based in Washington DC that is working to advance democracy through law. Trevor has worked as General Counsel for John McCain’s 2000 and 2008 presidential campaigns and previously served as a Republican Chairman of the Federal Election Commission.

Janai S. Nelson is Associate Director-Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF). As an organizational thought-leader at LDF, Nelson works with the President and Director-Counsel to determine and execute LDF’s strategic vision and oversee the operation of its programs, including having served as interim director of LDF’s Thurgood Marshall Institute. She is also a member of LDF’s litigation and policy teams and was one of the lead counsel in Veasey v. Abbott (2018), a federal challenge to Texas’s voter ID law. She has testified before Congress on voter suppression, algorithmic bias, and in support of the Voting Rights Advancement Act. Prior to joining LDF in June 2014, Nelson was Associate Dean for Faculty Scholarship and Associate Director of the Ronald H. Brown Center for Civil Rights and Economic Development at St. John’s University School of Law where she was also a full professor of law. Nelson’s most recent scholarly publication, Counting Change: Ensuring an Inclusive Census for Communities of Color, 119 Colum. L. Rev. 1399 (2019), advances a theory of representational equality in which all U.S. residents “are to be counted—and served—as constituents” and that centers the Census and the accurate count of the country’s most vulnerable populations in the functioning of our democracy.

María Teresa Kumar, Voto Latino’s founding president, is an American activist and social entrepreneur and an Emmy-nominated MSNBC contributor seeking to shake up the political process. Leveraging youth, technology, social platforms and influencers, Voto Latino reaches 6.5 million monthly. Voto Latino is a key civic engagement organization, registering 500,000+ voters. In 2018, Voto Latino registered 15 percent of new Texas voters.

E.J. Dionne Jr. is a syndicated columnist for The Washington Post, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, university professor in the Foundations of Democracy and Culture at Georgetown University, and visiting professor at Harvard University. Dionne provides regular political analysis for MSNBC and NPR’s All Things Considered. He is the author of several books, including Code Red: How Progressives and Moderates Can Unite to Save Our Country, published this year by St. Martin’s Press.

Jeb Brooks founded the Jack Brooks Foundation, an apolitical non-profit focused on increasing citizen participation in the voting process in 2017. He began his professional career in 1990 at the Management Associate training program at Citicorp and was then assigned to Citi’s branch in Taiwan. There he managed the relationships of multi-national corporations doing business in Taiwan. Later, he moved to London as A.V.P. of equity sales from Asia to European institutional investors. In 1997, Jeb moved to Texas where he worked at a retail bank, substantially improving Net Income and successfully selling the bank in 1999. Jeb then founded Merlin Engine, a private portfolio management and small business consulting firm. Merlin Engine currently manages about $30 million in assets under management as well as consulting with a number of businesses. Jeb’s educational background includes a master’s degree from University of Chicago, and a B.A. from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Additionally, he has completed a number of advanced credit, equity, and management programs. Jeb also speaks conversational Mandarin Chinese.
