It is no secret that American politics have become increasingly polarized. Our political “spectrum” has begun to look like a tug-of-war between not just two distinct political parties, but clashing, irreconcilable worldviews. With creeping extremism, “alternative facts,” “fake news,” and internet echo chambers, it seems that the days of putting our differences aside and coming to a compromise are over. One solution might be, “Why not start a third party?”

On Tuesday, October 25 at 7 pm ET, FOLCS will return to The 92nd Street Y, New York with a politician who has done just that. Andrew Yang, former presidential candidate and leader of the newly formed Forward Party, will join Thane Rosenbaum for an intimate conversation on navigating America’s deep partisanship. Join FOLCS and 92NY live in the Warburg Lounge, or via online ticket, to hear Yang speak to his experience on the front lines of our political system, and his thoughts about giving America a third choice.

Andrew Yang was a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and a 2021 candidate for mayor of New York City. Named by President Obama as a Presidential Ambassador of Global Entrepreneurship, he is the founder of Humanity Forward and Venture for America. Yang’s New York Times bestselling book The War on Normal People helped introduce the idea of universal basic income into the political mainstream. Yang is a graduate of Brown University, where he graduated with degrees in economics and political science, and Columbia Law School, where he was an editor of the Law Review. He lives with his family in New York.

Thane Rosenbaum is a novelist, essayist, and Distinguished University Professor at Touro University where he directs the Forum on Life, Culture & Society (“FOLCS”). He is the author of various books of fiction and nonfiction. His essays and reviews have appeared in major news outlets, and he is a frequent guest on various cable news programs. He is a columnist for the Jewish Journal. He serves as the national legal analyst for CBS News Radio. And he has moderated events at 92NY for over 20 years, and is the host of Talk Show.

The Forum on Life, Culture & Society (FOLCS) brings together influential artists, government leaders, members of the legal profession and public intellectuals, to examine the big ideas of our day, particularly in matters regarding law, justice, human rights and civil society.
