As part of our commitment to support and empower people at all stages of life, 92NY has launched a new, strength-based program for patrons with mild to moderate cognitive impairment that honors their intellectual sophistication and previous life experiences.
Within our community are members who are no longer able to engage as they once did. They are active patrons of 92NY, successful professionals, family matriarchs and patriarchs, community leaders and our friends and family.
To provide them with the respect and dignity they deserve, we are creating a new community program — offering cutting-edge, strength-based programming that engages the mind, body, and spirit, and provides support and guidance to both participants and their families. By engaging socially and by participating in deliberate conversation and activities that stimulate brain function, research shows the progression of dementia can be slowed and depression modified.
The Program for Cognitive Strength and Ability (PCSA)
Participant Cohorts and Family and Friends Support Series
The 92NY Program for Cognitive Strength and Ability was created with the dual goals of offering people living with cognitive loss dignified, sophisticated programing and connecting family and friends with a wide range of information and support.
PCSA Cohorts
The PCSA is designed to provide meaningful opportunities for small cohorts of community members with mild cognitive challenges to come together in-person twice weekly for cognitive strengthening and engagement in a relaxed, social setting. Each three-hour session follows a set curriculum that includes an introduction and check-in, a current affairs update, relevant, themed discussions, physical exercise designed to enhance cognitive functioning and improve balance, and a mix of music, art and humanities. Each cohort includes a maximum of 8-10 participants and has a high staff to participant ratio. The program is staffed by a psychologist, highly skilled social workers, advanced fitness trainers and professional artists. There is a fee for participation. Participants are screened individually for this part of the program.
Family and Friends Support Series
Each month we have an expert in the field speak about Cognitive Loss, Health, Mental Health or some aspect of Caregiving or Quality of Life Enrichment, presenting live, via Zoom. The goal of the Family and Friends Support Program is connecting participants with current, cutting-edge information and resources that can assist them and their loved ones. Each meeting includes time for questions and answers with the expert speaker. This series is open to the community. Anyone, anywhere who wants to join our Family and Friends Support Community can sign up to receive our email updates, join us when they are able and become part of the community. Monthly topics and speaks are posted on the 92NY site.
