Join Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh and cast members Omari Hardwick and Rob Kazinsky and Director/EP Olatunde Osunsanmi of Star Trek: Section 31 for an advance screening and conversation with MTV’s Josh Horowitz about their new movie, a highly anticipated addition to the Star Trek universe.

Reprising her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou from Star Trek: Discovery, Michelle Yeoh shines in Star Trek: Section 31. Following Emperor Georgiou as she faces the sins of her past and joins a secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, Section 31 is a thrilling addition to the Star Trek saga, anchored by a stellar ensemble cast. Following an advance screening of the movie, hear Yeoh and her castmates in a live recording of Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast on the making of the film — bringing Star Trek to a new generation, the bold new worlds that Starfleet is uncovering, stories from the set, and more.

Michelle Yeoh

Michelle Yeoh is an internationally recognized Malaysian-born actress who has been shattering convention for decades and most recently, went on to make history as the first Best Actress Oscar winner of Asian descent for her lauded performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Yeoh rose to fame in 1990s Hong Kong action films before going on to star in a myriad of globally acclaimed blockbusters. From martial arts master to Bond Girl, Yeoh has appeared in more than 70 features and television series. Her extensive filmography showcases a collection of iconic roles, including Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 1 & 2, Rob Marshall’s Memoirs of a Geisha, Roger Spottiswoode’s Tomorrow Never Dies, Danny Boyle’s Sunshine, and Jon Chu’s Crazy Rich Asians, the highest-grossing romantic comedy in the U.S. in the past 10 years. After appearing in James Gunn’s second installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, Yeoh returned to the Marvel universe in Destin Daniel Cretton’s Shang-Chi. Most recently, Yeoh’s performance in the Daniels’ Oscar-winning Everything Everywhere All At Once, earned her Golden Globe and SAG Awards wins, with the film becoming A24’s highest grossing ever.

In television, Yeoh appeared as ‘Emperor Philippa Georgiou’ in CBS’ Star Trek: Discovery, starred in Netflix’s The Witcher: Blood Origins and will next be seen in Disney+’s American Born Chinese as well as Netflix’s The Brothers Sun, from writer/producer Brad Falchuk. Other upcoming credits include James Cameron’s Avatar sequels, John Chu’s Wicked and Kenneth Branagh’s A Haunting In Venice.

In 2022, Yeoh was named TIME Magazine’s “Icon of the Year”. In 2020, she was named one of the BBC 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world. And in 2016, she was appointed Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations, focusing on raising awareness and mobilizing support for environmental issues.

Omari Hardwick

Actor Omari Hardwick is best known for his lead role of James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick on the hit Starz series, Power. It was one of Starz’s most highly rated shows and one of cable’s most watched shows. His performance was critically lauded, earning him the 2019 and 2020 Image Awards (NAACP) for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series. The show went on to produce multiple spinoffs for the network.

Most recently, Hardwick starred opposite Jennifer Lopez in The Mother for Netflix. The film follows a military-trained assassin who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter she’s never met from ruthless criminals gunning for revenge. Hardwick played agent William Cruise who is an ally to Lopez’s character. The action thriller was watched by 2.8M U.S. households over its debut weekend.

Next up, Hardwick will star in Xeno from Kevin Hart’s Heartbeat production company. The film follows a teenage girl who befriends a terrifying alien that crash-lands in the desert near her home. As government agents close in, the girl protects her dangerous new companion while also dealing with her depressed mother and the mother’s abusive boyfriend.

In 2022 he starred opposite Marsai Martin in the family sports comedy Fantasy Football, on Paramount+. He also recently starred opposite Toni Collette in the limited series Pieces of Her, and Zack Snyder’s zombie heist film Army of the Dead, both for Netflix. Other notable film credits include Boots Riley’s Sorry to Bother You and Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass.

Hardwick was born in Savannah, Georgia and raised in Decatur, GA. He grew up in the world of sports where he excelled in basketball, baseball, and football. He played football at the University of Georgia and minored in theater. After graduating, Hardwick relocated to San Diego for the San Diego Chargers however a knee injury cut his NFL career short.

In 2000, Hardwick made his move to Los Angeles and his big break came in 2003 when he was cast in his first major role as a series regular in Spike Lee’s Sucker Free City. Throughout 2007-2009, Omari worked on various projects including guest starring on several television series and filming several movies including Summit Entertainment’s Next Day Air and Touchstone Picture’s Miracle at St. Anna. In 2008, he landed the role of “Ty Curtis” on the TNT series Dark Blue Season 1 which aired throughout 2009.

In addition to acting, Hardwick is a founding member of Plan B Inc. Theater Group, and a co-founder of Los Angeles Actor’s Lounge. He established his production company, Bravelife, in 2010. As a poet and musical artist, he continues to write poetry and make music, with his debut album Concrete & Wiskey soon to be released.
