Join iconic fashion and costume designer Bob Mackie for a special screening of the new documentary about his life and career, Bob Mackie: Naked Illusion, followed by a special Fashion Icons conversation with Fern Mallis and special guests, director Matthew Miele, Tony Award-winning actress Bernadette Peters and Gregg Barnes.

Cher, Tina Turner, Carol Burnett, RuPaul, Miley Cyrus, and Bernadette Peters — these are just a few of the iconic artists who Bob Mackie has dressed in his extraordinary career. A designer whose dresses have helped define American style for decades, each of his outfits conjures something to behold and remember. Bob Mackie: Naked Illusion examines Mackie’s unique upbringing, interviewing some of his closest collaborators, and capturing his over-the-top costumes as they get sequined and beaded from sketch to stage. After the film, hear him and Peters talk to Fern Mallis about what drives him — his beautifully flashy style, the traditional methods he has used to create a wholly original aesthetic, stories from his career, and more.

Costume and fashion designer Bob Mackie is a nine-time Emmy Award winner, Geoffrey Beene CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, and has three Oscar nominations. He received a 2019 Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, and Outer Critics Circle Award for his work on The Cher Show. His Broadway credits include Moon Over Buffalo and Putting It Together, starring Carol Burnett, Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public, Minnelli on Minnelli, Lorelei with Carol Channing, and On the Town with Bernadette Peters and Phyllis Newman. The award-winning creator and organizer of Fashion Week in New York and cities across the globe, Fern Mallis has been an industry game changer in the world of fashion and design for more than 35 years. A former senior vice president of IMG Fashion and executive director of CFDA, she is the author of Fashion Lives: Fashion Icons with Fern Mallis, published by Rizzoli, which features no-holds-barred interviews, combined with never-before-seen personal photographs from interviewees such as Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, Betsey Johnson, Polly Mellen, Bruce Weber and more. She is currently the president of her own leading international fashion and design consultancy, Fern Mallis LLC.

A storyteller above all else, Matthew Miele has drawn upon his various experiences in music composition, publishing, and screenwriting to become a successful producer and director of critically acclaimed, and internationally renowned, feature-length documentaries.

Past films include Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s, Harry Benson: Shoot First, Always at The Carlyle and Alan Pakula: Going for Truth.

Miele’s latest film release, Bob Mackie: Naked Illusion, chronicles the unprecedented six- decade career of award-winning costume designer Bob Mackie. The film further examines Bob’s unique upbringing, those whom he has held dear within his inner circle, and the familial surprises in his life that have all contributed to the optimism and audacity present in his work.

Up next for Miele and currently in production are fully-authorized documentaries on the legendary lyricist Bernie Taupin, and an inside look at the renowned New York City comedy club, Comedy Cellar.
