Cathedrals of Industry: Exploring the Factories and Infrastructure That Made America book cover

Join Nobel Prize–winning Economist Paul Krugman for a discussion of America’s industrial past, present, and future in conjunction with the release of photographer Michael Horowitz’s new book Cathedrals of Industry.

America once stood as the world’s unchallenged industrial leader. But that leadership has been in decline for decades. Even generations. Until now. Thanks to government programs aimed at bringing back manufacturing jobs as well as companies “re-shoring” for multiple economic reasons, many say we’re experiencing a renaissance in America’s manufacturing sector. Who are the likely winners? Will automation mean more manufacturing but fewer jobs than in the past? What does this mean for globalization? And unionization? Nobel Laureate Paul Krugman will tackle these and other questions with moderator Ester Fuchs, professor of public affairs and political science at Columbia University, as well as an on-the-ground observer: photographer Michael Horowitz. Images from Horowitz’s book Cathedrals of Industry: Exploring the Factories and Infrastructure That Made America will illustrate and stimulate the discussion.

A book signing will follow the event.
