In this deeply personal and research-driven investigation, Spark Your Health is joined by Lucy Jones and Helana Vissing to explore the concepts of Matrescence — the profound process of becoming a mother.
Drawing from personal experiences and interdisciplinary research in neuroscience, psychoanalysis, and ecology, we will shed light on the physical, emotional, and spiritual changes that mothers undergo, that are often overlooking in our society.
Joining Lucy Jones on this important discussion is Helena Vissing, PsyD, SEP, PMH-C, a licensed psychologist and Somatic Experiencing® practitioner who will provide additional insight into maternal mental health and the impact of these changes on a mother’s well-being.
Together, Jones and Vissing will explore why many mothers feel they are at a breaking point during this heightened transition, and what our modern institution of intensive, isolated motherhood can tell us about our still-dominant social and cultural expectations. This talk will offer attendees the opportunity to reflect on how we can better support our mothers through this transformative period, while challenging myths about motherhood in today’s world.
