Drawing for Beginners

Supply List for Melanie Baker:
This is a guide, not a requirement; As long as you have some drawing materials and paper you’ll be fine!
- Variety of graphite pencils
- Example: B, 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B, HB, H, 2H, 3H, 4H
- Some sample brands: Prismacolor Turquoise, Mars Lumograph, Derwent
- Erasers: Kneaded (Faber Castell are best) and hard plastic erasers such as Mars Staedtler
- Charcoal: Vine and compressed
- Drawing pad (I like Stonehenge as a general use paper but there are many brands. Get the largest pad you are comfortable with. A smaller sketchbook is useful and encouraged.
- Glassene sheets to put between drawings
Optional
Color Media:
- Colored Pencils (recommended brands: Prismacolor Verithins, Colerase, Derwent, Faber Castell)
- Pastels (recommended brands: Prismacolor Nupastel - a basic place to start, Sennelier, Unison)
- Pastel and charcoal pencils (recommended: Derwent or Pitt)
- A portable pencil sharpener is handy.
- Blue work towels from the hardware store are useful. Wipes are as well.
