Beautiful Creatures: Jewelry Inspired by the Animal Kingdom

Marion Fasel in Conversation with Jonathan Wahl

Nov 17, 2020

Butterflies, fish, lions and birds are among the many animals immortalized in fine jewelry and featured in Beautiful Creatures, a catalogue for the forthcoming exhibition at the American Museum of Natural History’s newly redesigned Allison and Roberto Mignon Halls of Gems and Minerals.

Join Marion Fasel, jewelry historian and guest curator of the Beautiful Creations exhibition, for a conversation with 92Y Jewelry Center Director, Jonathan Wahl. The experts will review backstories of the jewels, symbolism of the creatures and celebrities who have worn the joyful, fierce and adorable menagerie made by legendary jewelry houses including Cartier, Bulgari and Tiffany and independent design stars such as Suzanne Belperron, Lucien Gaillard and JAR. All of the jewels date from the last 150 years. The timeframe dovetails with the founding of the museum and it’s 150th anniversary.
