South African pianist and NEA Jazz Master Abdullah Ibrahim has been a force in global jazz for more than 70 years.
Championed by Duke Ellington, a collaborator with artists from Don Cherry to Max Roach, and a lifelong activist who performed at the presidential inauguration of Nelson Mandela, Ibrahim’s music blends jazz, classical music, and gospel influences with the traditional African music of his Cape Town roots. Jazz Times hailed Ibrahim last year for his decades “exploring and deepening a lifelong romance with rumination while epitomizing grace and wisdom.” Don’t miss the chance to hear this titan of jazz.
