Raphaella Smits: Guitar Talks with Benjamin Verdery

Mar 23, 2013

Raphaella Smits joins Benjamin Verdery for a pre-concert interview.

Belgian guitarist Raphaella Smits, who is renowned for using an eight-string guitar, makes her 92Y solo recital debut in a program of Sor, Bach and Mertz.

Particularly acclaimed for her Bach performances, she discusses with Benjamin Verdery her own approach to Bach and her feelings for the Bach Chaconne in particular. She talks about using an eight-string guitar and explains why playing on a period instrument is so important to her. She also looks back on her friendship with the legendary Argentine guitarist Maria Luiza Anido.

This talk is part of our Guitar Talks with Benjamin Verdery series.
