Known to millions as “The Royal Family of the Guitar,” The Romeros returned to 92Y with a program of music from the region of Andalusia, Spain. Before the concert, the family patriarch Pepe Romero, who also appears at 92Y as a soloist, speaks with Benjamin Verdery.
Romero remembers his father’s influence over him and his brothers, and how he was introduced to the guitar. He discusses his relationship with composer Joaquín Rodrigo, whose Concierto de Aranjuez has become a signature Romero work, and he talks about his own compositions.
This talk is part of our Guitar Talks with Benjamin Verdery series.
