Los Angeles Guitar Quartet: Guitar Talk with Benjamin Verdery

Feb 9, 2013

The Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles Quartet has set the standard for guitar ensembles for more than three decades. Prior to its concert of music from the Americas, the group meets with Benjamin Verdery to discuss the audition process for selecting a member of the Quartet and give tips on how to be an effective ensemble player.

Creating and developing repertoire for the guitar quartet is an integral part of the LAGQ’s mission. They discuss the art of arranging music for four guitars—with a demonstration—and offer some “dos and don'ts” for writing for a quartet. They also suggest a list of important pieces for young quartets to study.

This talk is part of our Guitar Talks with Benjamin Verdery series.
