To honor the legacy of the guitarist-composer, 92Y invited four leading Americans (from left: Andrew York, Gyan Riley, Frederic Hand, David Leisner, with Benjamin Verdery, himself a guitarist-composer) to present an evening performing their own works.
Prior to the concert, the artists discuss a variety of issues about the life of a performer-composer. For example, they examine the pros and cons of composing while at the guitar. They discuss the influences of American music as well as the core classical guitar repertoire on their own compositions, and they offer advice to young guitarists who want to compose.
This talk is part of our Guitar Talks with Benjamin Verdery series.
