Join artist Floyd Hughes to explore the art of pictorial storytelling: combining images and text to create visual narratives.
Students will investigate all aspects of this exciting art form: from drawing techniques, lettering, and inking, to composition, perspective/camera angles, panel sequences, and developing your own original stories to create single panel cartoons and strips. Drawing on Floyd’s vast experience as a comic artist, character designer, and storyboard artist for clients like Marvel, DC, MTV Animation, and Spike Lee you will be introduced to skills that will provide a foundation for creative processes such as: children’s book illustration, storyboards for film and television production, and animation. Students’ skill levels will be individually catered to, and all areas of interest and genres are acknowledged, such as fantasy, historical, autobiographical, super heroes, horror, science fiction, humor, adventure, and more. The goal is not to change what you do, but to make you much better at doing it! This course will have simultaneous appeal for those hoping to ‘go pro’, or those who simply want to have fun!
