Join award-winning journalist Shahrzad Elghanayan with Robert Reid for a conversation about her new book, Titan of Tehran. Telling the story of Elghanayan’s grandfather, Habib Elghanian — a prominent Jewish businessman and philanthropist from Iran, and the first civilian executed during the 1979 revolution following trumped-up charges that he was a Zionist spy — Titan of Tehran is a richly researched, personal chronicle of family, loss, and notions of belonging to a country as a Jew.

Shahrzad Elghanayan

Award-winning American journalist Shahrzad Elghanayan works at NBC News as a senior photo editor. Previously, she was at Bloomberg News and The Associated Press, where she was a supervisor on the national photo desk. Before her journalism career, she assisted with research at the human rights organization Freedom House.

Her op-eds based on the research for Titan of Tehran have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and CNN.com.

Born in Tehran and raised in Manhattan, she graduated from the Lycée Français and has a B.A. in political science from Columbia University. She lives in New York with her husband Douglas J. Rowe, a longtime journalist.

Robert Reid

Foreign correspondent for The Associated Press in Europe, Asia and the Middle East for nearly 35 years. Currently Senior Managing Editor of Stars and Stripes. Extensive experience in conflict zones including revolutionary Iran 1978-1979, Lebanon during civil war, southern Philippines, Bosnian War, Kosovo conflict, Iraq and Afghanistan. Born and reared in western North Carolina. Graduate of Davidson College. Three years in US Army.
