On Leo Brouwer: Guitar Talks with Benjamin Verdery

Apr 23, 2011

On April 23, 2011, ten guitarists from six countries gathered on the 92Y stage to honor an icon of the guitar world, Cuban guitarist/composer/conductor Leo Brouwer, with a full evening of his music.

Seven of the performers—onstage, from left, René Izquierdo, Mark Eden (Eden–Stell Guitar Duo), Raphaela Smits, Philip Candelaria (Canadian Guitar Quartet), Christopher Stell (Eden–Stell), Louis Trépanier (CGQ) and Ricardo Cobo—join host Benjamin Verdery before the concert to offer personal tributes to Brouwer and describe his influence on their lives and art. They talk about his compositions, swap favorite stories about Brouwer, and discuss his teaching and performing styles.

This talk is part of our Guitar Talks with Benjamin Verdery series.
