The Nigerian singer-songwriter, Burna Boy, was born Damini Ogulu in Port Harcourt City, Nigeria. He started producing music when he was ten years old. His father always listened to dancehall and reggae music, an early influence and integral part of his musical style. Burna's grandfather managed Fela Kuti for the first 15 years of his career, a relationship that would come to shape Burna's sound and his understanding of himself as an artist that represents Nigeria, and more broadly Africa, to the world.
 
After graduating from college, Burna relocated to London to attend university. After two years, he dropped out and moved back to Nigeria to pursue his passion. A creative by the name of LeriQ allocated studio space for Burna to record and produce. LeriQ and Burna produced a track titled “Prefer to Party” which initiated his rise to prominence on a national and international level.
 
Burna Boy has released a long series of EPs, singles, mixtapes, and albums including 2018’s extraordinary OUTSIDE. The award-winning collection proved to be Burna Boy’s U.S. breakthrough, debuting at #3 on Billboard’s “Reggae Albums” chart, fueled in part by the blockbuster single/video, “Ye” which also went on to peak at number 26 and 31 on Billboard's Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop and R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay charts, respectively.
 
Soon after he went on to release the groundbreaking GRAMMY-nominated album (Best World Music Album), AFRICAN GIANT which was met with critical acclaim & now adorns a galore of “best of” lists including  Pitchfork’s 50 Best Albums of 2019, NPR’s Best Albums of 2019, Billboard’s 50 Best Albums of 2019, Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Albums of 2019, Complex’s Best Albums of 2019, and many more. The gifted singer-songwriter recently took home the 2019 BET Award’s Best International Act award. He was also named Apple Music's Up Next Artist  and one of YouTube’s Artist On The Rise.
 
Burna is among contemporary African music’s brightest stars and creator of an enigmatic new genre he simply dubs “Afrofusion.” In 2019 he made his Coachella debut, sold out the SSE Wembley which has a capacity of 12,500 (making him the first Afrobeat artist to sell out the arena), had a string of late night television appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and  The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, was featured on Beyonce’s THE LION KING: THE GIFT and took home the 2019 BET Best International Act Award (which he also went on to win again in 2020) and 2019 MTV Europe Music Award for “Best African Act”.
 
2020 saw the arrival of his highly anticipated and now GRAMMY-nominated (Best Global Music Album) 5^th studio album TWICE AS TALL which was executive produced by Sean “Diddy” Combs, Bosede Ogulu and Damini “Burna Boy” Ogulu and saw appearances from Senegal’s Youssou N’dour, Naughty By Nature, Kenyan band Sauti Sol, Chris Martin of Coldplay, Stormzy, LeriQ, Telz, P2J, Rexxie, Timbaland, Mike Dean, Anderson .Paak and Mario Winans.
 
Throughout TWICE AS TALL Burna Boy takes stock of his accomplishments, his vulnerabilities and at the same time encourages ambition and perseverance in the face of uncertainty and against all odds. While this album is a pure, unapologetic African body of work, it boasts of a global contemporary sound that is for everyone. For the “African giant” this project is a product of a potpourri of emotions and he is now standing “twice as tall.” After an extensive conversation, The New York Times they went on to declare Burna as “a leader amid a bounty of new African pop,” before going on to make it clear that “Burna Boy hasn’t diluted his African heritage to reach his global audience. Instead, he has placed an unmistakably African stamp on music drawn from all around Africa and from across the African diaspora.”

Born to two Ghanaian immigrants, Danielle Kwateng is a journalist, editor, entrepreneur, and cultural critic. After earning her degree in print journalism and fashion merchandising from Howard University, Danielle attended Columbia University's coveted Publishing Course. There, she refined her skills as a reporter and learned the art of authentic, authoritative storytelling. In the following years, she worked at Glamour, Essence, and VICE in various editorial capacities. Currently, Danielle serves as the Culture & Entertainment Director at Teen Vogue and founder of The Volta e-commerce platform.
