Dorchel Haqq raised in Harlem, New York began her dance training at Dance Theater of Harlem. Dorchel went on to dance at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music, Art & Performing Arts. Dorchel then later studied at the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College SUNY with a minor in arts management, where she was selected as a recipient of an Adopt-A-Dancer Scholarship. While at Purchase College SUNY, Dorchel studied abroad at the Korea National University of the Arts. Dorchel has worked with and performed works by Ohad Naharin, Johannes Wieland, Maxine Doyle, Stephanie Batten Bland, Loni Landon and Kayla Farrish. As a freelancer, Dorchel has led sensory based movement workshops at SUNY Purchase. Dorchel has presented her own choreographic works at Triskelion Arts, Battery Dance Festival and has curated her own shows at CPR. Dorchel is the co-founder of LAB RATS, a multi-disciplinary performance platform. Due to COVID-19, Dorchel is investigating site specific works starting in Harlem in response to the BLM movement.
