This is an online workshop for students of all levels who are interested in making new poems.
We’ll deepen our sense of craft and poetic form as we generate and revise new drafts over the course of four sessions. We’ll also be reading a wide variety of poets new and old, from Yusef Komunyakaa to Anne Carson to Danez Smith, and we’ll be imitating them as we learn to make our own poems. Each session will include some close study of the readings, and then be devoted largely to workshopping student work. Assignments will include a sequence of writing prompts. We’ll try over these four weeks to find language and form for the world as we experience it, and we’ll try to learn to see like a poet.
Class is held online on Wednesdays September 11, 18, 25, and October 9.
Enrollment is limited to 12 students.
